Nine years ago I released a sequel to The Empress Chronicles. I decided to put The Keepsake out on my own after my publisher at the time declined it. Yeah, that happens. I won’t get into all the work it takes to self-pub, but let me tell you, unless you are ready to embark on a fulltime job, and have some deep pockets for promotion, I don’t recommend it.
That said, I still remember fondly the research phase of the project. It involved a lengthy trip to Austria (my birthplace), and a historical stalking of the Empress Elisabeth (Sissi1), as well as a deep dive into the Habsburgs and their bevy of Schlösser.
Well folks, I’m at it again—this time with the backing of a publisher, so yay. My upcoming novel, BITTTERROOT, takes place in the Idaho Panhandle. My preferred spelling eliminates that double S in favor of the single S, but employing that option has, in the past, caused Homeland Security scrutiny due to the alignment with the current Egyptian president.
You've given me another reason to pop into TikTok again, which I mostly neglect and never post on.
I love the history behind the colors of certain buildings in that town!
