Hi Suzy,

I heard there's an upcoming class this August where you will be coaching about a dozen writing students and doing some one on one with them.

Is this going to be different from your Lit Reactor classes?

Btw: I'm reading "Unkiss Me." Thank you for your work.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the note! Yes, this will be different. First, it will be a 12-week class. High-touch, and limited to 12 participants, and much more feedback. Here's the info, and I'm working with Randy of New York Stories (who you likely know!) he's agreed to handle the admin. Let me know if you need his contact information!

Join like-minded writers in an on-line 12-week workshop with Book Coach and Dangerous Writing alum, Suzy Vitello. Class starts in August!

This is a high-touch, participant-involved workshop where you’ll get feedback on your writing from the participants in a group setting, as well as up to three one-on-one consultations with Suzy. Each three-hour live/taped group session will feature a short craft lecture followed by presentation of work by three participants. The one-on-one consultations each week will be scheduled separately via zoom at a mutually agreed upon time.

WHEN: Class will likely be held on Saturdays, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Pacific time/ 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Eastern beginning early August

WHERE: online, everywhere! Via Google Meet for class and Zoom for individual consultations

FORMAT: We will have a robust workshop environment that includes reading work aloud. We are closing class size at 12 to ensure each participant gets three times to read and have their work considered.

GOAL: Actionable advice that will lead to a publishable story, or a “line of flight” on a longer work, as well as craft lectures that can be applied to future work.

COST: Class is $1,000 – very limited partial scholarships available. All participants will be gifted a one-yr paid subscription to this very substack (if you are already a paid subscriber, we'll cover you for an additional year)

CRAFT AREAS COVERED: Applying minimalism to the contemporary story; POV; dialogue; character relationships; tense considerations; opening paragraphs that hook; building tension; turning info-dump into seduction; specificity; how and when to include interiority; object morphology; achieving climax

About the instructor (for additional info check out suzyvitello.com):

Here’s what folks have to say about working with Suzy:

“When you study writing with Suzy Vitello you’re studying with Tom Spanbauer and Gordon Lish and Chelsea Cain. Suzy is one of the rare writers who recognize and collect skills from a wide range of master storytellers. She’s become a one-woman MFA program. Better yet, she’s Suzy Vitello, a compassionate teacher who sees that, whether or not they’re published, writers are human beings, and she treats them with patience and respect.” ~ Chuck Palahniuk

"After some pretty rocky courses with harsh feedback from real life instructors some time ago, my confidence was pretty badly shaken, I stopped showing my writing to anyone. However Suzy in just a couple of comments did much to help restore my confidence." ~ KiwiMaria, on Suzy's POV class

"I am so grateful for Suzy’s expert eyes on my manuscript. She is compassionate and professional in her approach, and she provided insights that I had not before considered in my work. She has pushed me to grow to be a better writer, encouraging me to apply for an Oregon Fellowship which I ultimately won. I would highly recommend her to every writer I know."

~ Natalie Hirt, 2019 Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship winner, women’s fiction

“Writer and coach extraordinaire!” – Dian Greenwood, author of ABOUT THE CARLETON SISTERS

"Suzy has read and commented on every chapter of every thriller I've ever published. She is a treasure. So smart. And such a terrific communicator. If there's something you like about one of my characters, you can bet it's because of Suzy. There are a handful of people I'd trust with a work-in-progress. She is one of them."

~ Chelsea Cain, bestselling author of the HEARTSICK series and many awesome comic books.

Thank you, Suzy. I'd heard rumblings from Randy about this. I've recently enrolled in a trade-school that's as intense as a graduate program. It's eating all my time and finances at the moment. Once I'm finished with the program—and back on my feet financially this time next year—I'd love to enroll in something like this with you at the helm. Please keep me in mind. I will be in touch with Randy as well.

Many thanks!

Steve
